LA Times Book Prize for Fiction
The Los Angeles Times Book Prizes, established in 1980, recognize outstanding literary achievements in nine categories: biography, current interest, fiction, first fiction, history, mystery/thriller, poetry, science and technology, and young adult fiction.
Eligible books must be published in the US in English, though authors may be of any nationality and English does not have to be the original language of the work. They should be alive at the time of their book's qualifying US publication although eligibility is also extended to significant new translations of the work of deceased writers.
The winners receive a citation and $1000.
